Four languages are offered at St Andrew’s College: Chinese (Mandarin), French, Italian and Japanese.
All students learn Japanese from Prep in the Junior Years, with a focus on songs, games and culture in the very early years. The integration of technology in the Japanese language class is a major focus in the Junior Years. http://juniorjapanese.weebly.com/
In Middle Years, students choose to either continue with Japanese or commence a beginners course in Chinese (Mandarin), French or Italian. French, Italian and Japanese are offered from Years 6 to 12 and are taught by specialist Language teachers. Chinese is currently offered in Years 6, 8, 9 and10. Students have the opportunity to participate in the annual inter-school speaking competition and various cultural activities and competitions throughout the year.
As students move to Senior Years, there are opportunities to participate in overseas trips, host overseas students, apply for scholarships and enjoy the personal long term benefits of learning a language. Our aim in the Languages Faculty is to foster a passion for the language and culture of the language we teach and to share our language expertise with your child.
