Cricket Academy

The STACC Cricket Academy is a formal cricket academy inclusive of regular fixtures, training and tournament participation.

The academy has a membership of approximately 70 students with numbers projected to grow to 150 members over the next 3 years.

In 2019 our Family and Community Engagement (FACE) group committed significant funds to develop two cricket nets laying the foundations for cricket at the school. “Winter nets” (Co-curricular cricket) started at St Andrew’s in 2021 with four students and the support of our parents. In 2023, the school secured grant funding with the collaboration of Rovers CC to develop St Andrew’s as a host cricket ground for internal academy use, hosting school matches, as well as forming a critical piece in the partnership with Rovers CC and the wider cricket community as a host to Tier 1 Club Cricket matches.

In 2024, we have seen growth in participation, with many students regularly attending training and playing in fixtures. We invested in purchasing Canterbury playing shirts (College expense), and the option for training shirts (parent expense) to help create a culture and cricketing identity.

St Andrew’s has been the frontrunner in the region for cricket:

  • Organiser, host and winner of the FNQ Catholic Schools Gala Day Cup
  • Winner of the Northern Region (TCN) Primary Cricket Tournament
  • Winner of the FNQ Primary Finals
  • Establishment of the First Followers Shield - rivalry between St Andrew’s and St Mary’s Catholic College
  • Establishment of cricketing connections with other local Primary schools
