The Rugby Program at St Andrew’s is one that has been developing over the last decade; however, is still young in comparison to other schools around the district.
We are working on improving the culture of our teams and this year it was pleasing to see St Andrew’s field sides in the 13s, 15s and Opens Boys and 7 a side competition in the same age groups for the girls.
“CHUGBY (Chicks Rugby)” made its way to St Andrew’s in 2015 and our girls arrived in a big way. They competed in a number of 7s competitions throughout the year where they had a heap of fun and got to participate against a host of other colleges for the first time. The girls started off with a Tri-Team Cup against TAS and a Canadian Touring School where the St Andrew’s girls went through undefeated to conquer the day. The girls also competed in a District 7s tournament in term 3 against a handful of other schools from Cairns to Cooktown. Well done to all of these brave young women for putting their hand up to try a new sport and wear the jersey with pride.
